Revolutionizing Stationery: The Multifunctional Bookmark

Yong Zhang and Hongjie Yu's Ingenious Design Wins Silver A' Design Award

The multifunctional bookmark stands out in the market with its unique properties. Unlike traditional bookmarks and rulers, which are separate products, this design combines three commonly used tools into one. The bookmark serves its traditional purpose while also functioning as a ruler and a writing aid. This ingenious solution simplifies the learning process by providing all necessary tools in one compact design.

The bookmark is made from PP semitransparent plastic material, which is non-toxic and tasteless. With a thickness of about 1.5 mm, it is carved by an engraving machine, and the scale of the ruler is made by screen printing. The bookmark measures 250 mm in width, 1.5 mm in depth, and 30 mm in height.

The design process took place in Fushun, China, in July 2017. The design team, which includes Yong Zhang, Hongjie Yu, Mingzhu Tong, Menghua Wang, Xuetong Zhao, Mingda Yang, Baokun Lv, Chenghao Yang, Zizheng Liu, and Feiyang Zhao, faced no technical obstacles thanks to mature carving processing technology and traditional production methods.

Through extensive research and investigation of beginners' needs, the team was able to create a practical product that solves a common problem in a multifunctional form. The multifunctional bookmark simplifies complexity, extending the scale of the ruler while also serving as a bookmark and writing aid.

This innovative design was awarded Silver in the A' Art and Stationery Supplies Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
